Great food,friendly staff and very affordable.

A little slower service tonight, but great southern fried fish!

Very good seafood and good service. Open for dinner only. Dine in or take out. The restaurant style is typical mom and pop fish camp. This is fried food heaven. Oysters, fish, scallops, shrimp, with a nice side salad or slaw, fries, onion rings, baked potato..If you're in the mood for a steak, they have the best rib eye in town. There is plenty of seating inside. Party rooms are available. Be patient your order will take about 20 minutes. Plan to spend $15-25 per person No alcohol on premises. Call ahead and pickup inside or drive thru ( drive thru is not recommended because of wait times).

Food is great and so is the service !

Fried food, noisy atmosphere, and crowds are not my cup of tea. I will say though, that the flounder served was more than an average portion which will definitely make the big eater happy. If you like fried foods, this would be the place for you.

Great light cornmeal breaded fish, perfectly cooked fried oysters, tasty sides and service with a smile.

Just as good as Jay's Seafood, but without a buffet. They do offer all you can eat Alaskan White Fish, Baby Flounder, and Tilapia.Charcoaled Ribeye Steaks available.I've only gotten take out here, and no mistakes have been made with my order.Cash only. no credit cards accepted.

Wow. This is the first time I have ordered from the restaurant in over 20 years and I got two sides or I would say two appetizers and paid over $12 for them. Times have really changed. The food was great. But that is really expensive for just two appetizers.

My Father wanted to go here for Fathers' Day. The place was extremely packed. We were able to get seated immediately after entering which was amazing given the number of people that were there. The waitress was super friendly and had the drinks to us very quickly. There was hardly any room to move around, and it was total chaos trying to squeeze in at the buffet. I'm not a fan of buffets and large crowds of people in restaurants. My fish was very good. The vegetables were on the bland side, but understandable given the fact that people have a wide range of dietary restrictions and requirements. The staff was very pleasant in their interactions with other customers and the kitchen seemed to be on top of things by keeping the buffet full. My Mom and Dad seemed to enjoy themselves and we're very pleased with the food and the service provided. Overall, they did an outstanding job handling the large number of people that were there for Fathers' Day!!

Very nice atmosphere, friendly staff, fare prices and great food.

That place has the BEST SEAFOOD I have eaten in a very very long time! I even ate the deviled crab and I hate those! The prices were fantastic and the portions are huge! Great fresh sweet tea! The staff is off the chain excellent! They don't take debit or credit cards, cash and checks are accepted.

The BEST seafood around hands down! Also, the best chef salad too. The portions are filling and worth it. If you don’t want to eat in, call and order then pick up at the drive thru. I hate to say it, but this Jays is definitely better than Jays in the country (the one on Stony Gap Rd). Definitely try the Alaskan White Fish- you won’t be disappointed!

Fresh hot food

Waited an hour and no food. I asked and received no explanation. Now we go here often and I've given a very good review but tonight was a disaster. The couple at the next table from us ordered their food right after we did. They not only received theirs first but we're through eating and getting up to pay and leave when I finally asked a waitress if there was some kind of problem. This was a terrible experience and I suspect that the waitress did something with our order besides turn it in. ImI writing this in hope that an owner or manager reads this and tries to correct the problem.

All I can say is I stopped here with friends and the service was off the charts and the food was so good like mama would make

We are fairly new to the area and have really made a point to try and hit the local spots and this place was by far the best restaurant we have been to in Albemarle. The value, the food, the service is all top notch. Only negative notes are they don't take credit cards and the clean and well decorated bathroom doors don't have locks. We will be coming here again and again and bringing company when they come to town. Best oysters I've ever had!

Great fish and I'm sure their other food is great also. I will be going there again on January 3rd with my former high school classmates. The facility is clean and well-maintained. The staff is always friendly and helpful.

It was a bit on the cool side to me. The food was good and those HUSH PUPPIES were amazing! Honey butter spread comes with them. They came out hot!

PROS: Excellent prices. Unbelievably abundant portions of fish: fried or broiled...served on huge plates that other restaurants would designate as "platters." The service was excellent, with very upbeat and attentive waitresses. Ample parking and seating, in a very family- friendly atmosphere.CONS: we tried flounder, catfish and tilapia (both fried and broiled). All were muted in flavor, as if seasoning was absent-although red flavorless spices were clearly visible on the broiled baby flounder... You also have to watch out for fish bones in fried fish, particularly if children are in your party. No knives at the table...just forks...! No locks/hooks in the bathroom stalls...bring a buddy!

This is the only place we go to eat fish. The food is awesome! Fish is always fresh, hot and they give you plenty of it. Hushpuppies are delicious as well.

Absolutely delectable seafood! Huge portions of quality seafood options will not disappoint ! Wishing they would bring the onion petals back to the menu 😉 By far the most satisfying choice to accompany any menu choice !

Jay's Downtowner is located in Albemarle, NC just off NC Hwy 24/27. If you like fried seafood this is your place. I appreciate the fact that this business is successful and has been for many, many years, but it's not my kind of dining establishment. Jay's has a great customer base and they will be open for many years to come. Tonight the shrimp was greasy, but the catfish was wonderful. Skip the ribeye as it is marinated and extremely salty and the toughest piece of steak I have ever attempted to eat. Skip the cole slaw and opt for an iceberg salad or the red slaw. Baked potatoes were scorching hot and tasty - of course the hushpuppies were delicious. The service was great and accurate! This place has really neat historical pictures and memorabilia adorning the walls. Stop in and check out Jay's Downtowner...you may enjoy what they have on the menu. Enjoy!

The food was great! The staff was very friendly! I tried the whitefish plate and I'm glad I didn't get the all you can eat because even on the small plate it was enough to bring home. The hush puppies are also very good.
